The Market Research and Data Analyst is responsible for market research, demand planning and purchasing, and data analysis.  The Market Research and Data Analyst is technical (ability to manipulate data) and detail-oriented (ability to manage complex sets of data coming from multiple sources) at the same time.  The Market Research and Data Analyst needs to be skilled in data management from Excel spreadsheets to MySQL and more proper database formats.  The Market Research and Data Analyst will be a hands-on “doer” working at the micro level (data entry, data manipulation, order entry, vendor management, etc) 80% of the time and at the macro level (holiday forecasting and data analysis, new product launch purchase schedule, etc) 20% of the time.


Additionally, the Market Research and Data Analyst must be able to multi-task and work on other ad-hoc projects that may arise in any typical, high growth organization.



  • Ensure research is conducted regularly, set benchmarks based on research
  • Weekly reporting on inventory value and under/over stock items
  • Daily vendor communication with factories overseas
  • Collaboration with marketing and customer service teams on new product-related initiatives
  • Report generation for various company functions as needed


Specific Responsibilities


Market Research

  • Research competitive landscape of screen protectors and all accessory product categories
  • Gather data on competitors and analyze their:
    • Prices
    • Sales
    • Evaluate methods for collecting data such as Amazon category research, Google keyword research and existing data collection methods
    • Measure the effectiveness of current data collection methods
    • Monitor industry trends and statistics in industry-specific publications


Data Analysis and Vendor Communication

  • Daily communication with overseas vendors about:
    • Existing orders
    • Order forecast
    • New products
    • Product issues
    • Scheduling of shipments


Report Generation

  • Inventory report weekly
    • Inventory levels in all marketplaces
    • Inventory value (total)
    • Inventory value (excess)
    • Sales report weekly
      • Sales across all marketplaces
      • Sales separated by product category
      • Sales over time by product and product category
      • Sales tax report generation monthly (5th of month)
      • Inventory valuation report generation monthly (5th of month)
      • Cost and margin analysis as needed
      • Other ad-hoc reporting projects on as needed basis



  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Business or other related field required
  • Strong Excel skills (will be tested)
  • Enjoys data management, embraces the tedious challenge
  • Experience with report generation (Excel and more)
  • Attention to detail, meticulous in nature
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task in time sensitive environment and a self-starter
  • Works hard and plays hard (work/life balance) and loves the fast-paced startup environment
