Galaxy Note 8 Reviews: the best device for you?

Galaxy Note 8 Reviews: the best device for you?

Was Samsung able to redeem themselves?

After the Galaxy Note 7 was practically synonymous with “explosion”, Samsung released their next-gen Galaxy Note 8. And not far along came the reviews. Are you eyeing on the Note 8 to be your next phone? We’ve got you covered!

Galaxy Note 8

Galaxy Note 8

What’s to love?

Even with a great 6.3-inch “Infinity Display” screen size the phone is easy to hold in one hand. Then you can use your other hand for the S-Pen and tap away on the device. It’s also not as big as the other chunky phones like the iPhone 7 Plus. This is so far the biggest screen ever placed in a Note too.

The Note 8 also has a great AMOLED display even in power saving mode. Plus even with the “always-on” display, there’s not much worry on battery drain as the display only uses power for colors other than black (smart design!).

Going back to the S-Pen, there’s been some great and helpful upgrades on it too! One very usable perk is writing a note even with the screen locked up to 100 pages and more!

Plus Live Message that can be made into a GIF and send in social media which is pretty neat for this reviewer.

Another relatively new trick in the device is hiding the screen navigation bar with a double tap which can be handy for times you want to maximize the screen for an app.

There’s also a headphone jack for those who still need to have it!

Samsung also joined the bandwagon by placing dual cameras on the Note 8. The Korean tech giant did not hold back in making sure image quality is amazing according to this review. You can also shoot bokeh-like images called “Live Focus.”

What’s NOT to love?

If you’re not much of a fan of Bixby and the dedicated Bixby key, sorry to say but it’s here to stay…and probably for keeps. This reviewer still quite hated the fact the fingerprint sensor is at the back near the camera like the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. And the alternatives don’t work as well either.

Repairing / replacing the display can be pretty difficult since you have to take out the glass case with its strong adhesive. So, it’s best to keep that display protected!!

With great perks, come great/expensive price. The starting price is at $930 for the unlocked version and can go for $960 through US carriers.

OK, I definitely want to buy the Note 8! But this is some hefty price!?

Shelling out almost $1,000 for an awesome device is definitely no laughing matter. That’s why we at Tech Armor want to make sure that you get to maximize your investment with no worries!

Our 3D-Edge Ballistic Glass Case-Friendly Screen Protector will keep your screen scratch and fingerprint-free! And those accidental drops? Our protectors will also take the brunt of the fall for your screen! 😉

Don’t worry about phone accessories for your new Note 8 like Powerbanks, Cables, Car Mounts & Car Chargers. Tech Armor’s got your back—always! 😉

Google Launch 2017: New Google Pixel 2 phones and more!

Google Launch 2017: New Google Pixel 2 phones and more!

They had a lot under their sleeve to reveal! 😉

Google did not hold back with all the announcements it had October 4 at the San Francisco Jazz Center! After lots of leaks and speculations, they finally launched the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL! And there’s even more new tech you might wanna check out.

First up: the new Google Phones!

One of the immediate differences is seen in the screen structure:

  • The Google Pixel 2 has a 5.0-inch OLED display and a 16:9 aspect ratio.
  • The Pixel 2 XL has 6.0-inch P-OLED display with a 18:9 aspect ratio. The larger phone ironically has slimmer bezels around the screen compared to its small counterpart.

The Pixel 2 also is powered a 2,700 mAh battery, while the Pixel 2 XL boasts a 3,520 mAh cell. The available colors for the Pixel 2 are Just Black, Clearly White, Kinda Blue and Black and White (the Pixel 2 XL is only Just Black and Black and White).

While most of the interior specs are the same for both phones. Some of which are:

The devices are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of Ram and the latest version of Android Oreo out of the box. They’re also DayDream/augmented reality Ready. You can also choose from either 64GB or 128GB of storage.

Sadly, no headphone jacks on this one folks. You’d have to choose between listening to music or charging the phone.

The bright side is the Google Pixel camera continues to be on top of the DxOMark scoring a 98, beating current Apple and Samsung flagships both scoring a 94. One of the newest features you can check out is squeezing the sides of the device to launch Google Assistant. The phone will also come with the Quick Switch Adapter to make transferring data easier from your old phone to your chosen Pixel 2. Oh and this is how they showed it in the event:

Pretty interesting, right? 😉

What else did Google announce?

Google announced a whole lot in its conference! Several of the other announcements are:

  • Google Pixelbook as a “four in one convertible”
  • Pixelbook Pen to complement the new Pixelbook
  • Google Home Max, the tech-giant’s answer to Apple’s Homepod,
  • Google Home Mini, smaller/donut-sized version of the Max
  • DayDream VR headset
  • Google Pixel Buds (notable feature is its live translation)
  • Google Clips

Awesome! But how much for the new Pixel phones again?

The price for the Pixel 2 starts at $649 while for the Pixel 2 XL starts at $849.

Almost $1,000?! That price is no joke.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no stopping the rising price for any new phone on the market! 🙁 Tech Armor totally understands how investing on a great phone is important nowadays. And just how much it can give a dent to your wallet.

That’s why we make sure that you get premium quality phone accessories at a fraction of your device’s price. A clear win-win! 😉

We are definitely protecting the new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL! Stay tuned as we give more updates on our upcoming screen protectors for it!

Fitbit Charge 2: great buy?

Fitbit Charge 2: great buy?

Best way to shoot for a healthier lifestyle?

With the rise of awesome smartphones, comes the cool wearables and smartwatches too. One of the greatest pros of having one is the health benefits it can give. Did the Fitbit Charge 2 catch your attention? Looking to get yours? Get more info below!

Pros

It’s definitely considered as an upgrade from its predecessor. The display is four times larger, which is a huge plus— you get to see more info in just one glance. You can also customize the comfier rubber straps from the following styles: Classic, Luxe leather and their Special Editions. Making it more fashionable.

And choose from 3 sizes: small, large and XL.

The device can also automatically track if you’re exercising so you’ll continue to be in the zone.

One great highlight for the Fitbit Charge 2 is the PurePulse Heart Rate tracking technology without having to wear a chest strap. US Consumer Reports backed up the device’s reasonable level of heart-rate accuracy.

While a great firstthe Guided Breathing feature helps improve your condition—releasing stress or for cooling down.

Another awesome new feature is the VO2 Max that measures your heart rate based on your age and gender.

All standard fitness tracking data are also present and considered correct in the app. The app is also in easy to read format. Overall a solid successor fitness tracker.

Cons

It’s water resistant but not waterproof folks. It’s not also recommended by Fitbit to use while in the shower.

Interacting with the OLED display may also mean jabbing or poking it since it uses the accelerometer to tell when you’re hitting it since it’s not touch screen.

How much is it?

The price starts at $149.95, so are you totally sold on buying one? Great! With that bigger screen comes greater responsibility to protect it – with the poking included too. Good thing Tech Armor has your back! 😉 We’ve got the HD Clear Screen Protector in 2-pack! You could probably use the other one as spare or share with a fellow-Fitbit Charge 2 user!

Speaking of fitness, make sure to get moving too! Achieve a lifetime of movement with our friends from Motus EdgeStretch and warm-up with their Resistance Bands, while giving yourself extra protection with their Compression Sleeves!

Decided to try Crossfit? They got a Starter Kit for that!

As always, Tech Armor has you covered! 😉

OnePlus 5: worth buying?

OnePlus 5: worth buying?

Could this be your new phone?

Still checking the phone market to see which would be the best for you? If you’re not onboard with the latest Apple phones, then the OnePlus 5 might just be the one! We’ve got some reviews and info that might help you out!

Pros?

The OnePlus 5 is one speedy and minimalist phone. Jumping in and out of apps are lightning quick and efficient. It’s considered as the fastest phone this reviewer used. The company did not hold back as the phone is powered with the latest Snapdragon 835. Plus with the Ardeno 540 GPU for a great gaming experience.

Old-fashioned but not your typical 1080p 5.5-inch AMOLED panel with 16:9 resolution. It has vibrant colors and can get very bright that you can check your phone even under the sunlight.

It’s a first for the company to manufacture a phone that’s rocking the dual-lens camera. The main camera is 16MP with super-wide aperture of f/1.7. The other is the 20MP telephoto lens with aperture of f/2.6. These cameras are especially useful for Portrait Mode and shooting faraway subjects.

For gamers, the Gaming Do Not Disturb mode would be a great plus where you can turn off all notifications while playing. For everyone who’s missing the 3.5mm headphone jack on recent iPhones… this one has it!

While its Oxygen OS has lots of customizable perks like the notification shade easily customizable.

Cons?

No folks this phone is still not waterproof like other phones today. So best to keep it away from bodies of water.

The OnePlus 5 also has no expandable memory. So you might have to make a second check on which you’d choose: the 64GB or 128GB storage?

Hardware (and partly software) might kind of be reminiscent of other phones like Apple and Oppo, if this can be a deal breaker for you.

The price may be neutral ground starting at $479, which is still quite cheaper than Apple’s iPhones or Samsung’s Galaxy 8/8Plus or Note 8. Not a bad phone…for that price too! Looking to purchase one? Before it runs out in the wild, it”s best to keep the screen safe from drops and scratches!

Tech Armor has you covered with our Edge-to-Edge glass Ballistic Glass Screen Protector! 😉

And if you’re always on the go, we’ve got Universal Car Mounts and our Bike Mount to help you out!

LG V30: launching this August 31?

Will it use OLED displays too?

LG might just release a new phone on their V series line. Exactly your cup of tea? Let us help you out to get the latest on the rumor mill! 😉

Specs to expect: lots of upgrades

Display: joining the bandwagon?

The Investor reported earlier this year that LG will also start using OLED screens,

beginning with the LG V30. Which may look like the Galaxy S8.

Though it’ll still have the V series signature second screen. But this time it might slide out from under the main screen.

What’s under the hood?

The new LG phone will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 835, along with 6GB of RAM. And the device will have an audio boost with the upgraded Quad DAC.

It’ll also be one of the first devices to be Daydream-ready. It’s Google’s new virtual reality platform that revolves on using headsets, peripherals and software.

Other new possible perks?

Everyone might just be in luck as the LG V30 may also sport two 13MP rear cameras just like the G6 has.

Another rumor that’s come up is the device will have a glass back to feature wireless charging.

Any leads on the release?

Lots in the web agree that LG will be launching the new device on August 31. As they all share the sentiment it’s what’s being hinted in the invite the tech giant sent out.

Another important question: how much?

As of now price range goes from $699 to likely over $700 USD and even upto $750

That’s still pretty expensive!

We totally understand that getting a great phone is no walk in the park. Especially with the price getting higher.

So here at Tech Armor, we’ll make sure you get the best possible protection at just a fraction of the price! Pretty neat right? 😉

So not to worry as we’ll be able to help you out if you plan to get the LG V30. We’ll be ready with our screen protectors so the phone’s awesome screen will stay amazing.

If you’re always driving and on the go, you can get our car charger so your phone will always be powered up!

A great combination to that will be our universal magnetic car mounts. You can choose from our 4 options to which best fits your needs!

Oh and don’t fret about germs on ALL your devices with our germ cleaning kits!

LG G6 or LG G6+: which is the one for you?

LG released a G6+ version too! Is it the one for you?

LG G6 is one of the first flagship phones released this 2017. And now just months after, we have the LG G6+!

Now deciding which to get? Let Tech Armor help you out! Read on to know more! 😉

What’s on LG G6 again?

Let’s take a recap on LG’s 2017 flagship phone.

The device was revealed in this year’s Mobile World Congress. It attracted a lot with the less-bezel screen sporting a 18:9 aspect ratio—a first for a smartphone. It also has a Quad HD+ display with a 2,880 x 1,400 resolution. And powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor.

Another notable feature is that LG went back to basics compared to its riskier predecessor. It exhibits a simple unibody metal design— which means we had to say goodbye to the removable battery. Oh, and the phone supports Netflix HDR too.

Other specs include 3,300 mAh non removable battery and Full Vision Display.

How will the LG G6 Plus (LG G6+) be different?

Off the bat, one of the popular said upgrades in the new device is the 128GB storage compared to the 32GB in the LG G6.  Also, folks will get to enjoy hi-res audio as LG included a 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC headphone port.

Plus you’ll have more color options: Optical Astro Black, Marine Blue and Terra Gold. These color options will have a lenticular film on the back of the phone for an optical effect. But other than that, hardware specs is still quite the same with the LG G6: the 5.7-inch QHD display with rounded corners, the Snapdragon 821 processor and the 3,300 mAh battery.

Next 2 questions you might have in mind are: when will it be available and for how much?

Rumored price for the LG G6 Plus so far is around $890. And still no word/rumors when the phone will be globally available.

Now here’s a quick rundown of the specs for both:

Hold on. There’s more! Both the LG G6 and the LG G6+ versions will be getting:

  • “Face Print” Software where you can unlock your phone using facial recognition
  • “Low Power Consumption” to help manage the 3300mAh power
  • “Covered Lens Warning” so you’ll know if you’re blocking the dual lens camera

Seems like both are sweet phones!

They sure are! Here at Tech Armor, we want to make sure that all your gadgets are safe for any kind of scenario! The great news is we’ve got the LG G6 covered too! 😉 Since the screen size/shape didn’t change from the original LG G6 model, our current Ballistic Glass Screen Protector fits both models!

Our flagship screen, the Ballistic Glass Screen Protector will secure your screen from drops and scratches! And if 3,300mAh power, even with the Low Power Consumption software, is not enough for you… our ActivePower Power banks should do the trick!

Not a fan of germs on your device? We’ve got cleaning kits for you too!

Your Phone is FILTHY! How to Properly Clean Your Smartphone

Even if your phone looks clean, trust us, it’s NOT. Read below to learn more about the dangers that lie on your device and how to keep a clean phone screen.

In the last decade alone, thanks to a vast increase in mobile data speed and availability coupled with an explosion of apps and programs, the smartphone has evolved beyond simple conversation and web browsing. Our business and personal culture has shifted into a multi-task environment with the smartphone at its core. From work emails to social media and online shopping, the need to be connected has vaulted the smartphone to a digital personal assistant- one that is accessed thousands of times daily.

One study suggests that we touch our phones 2600+ times per day, while another has this number MUCH higher at 5400. Either way you slice it, anywhere we go, the phone is not far away. Every new location and each of the thousands of daily touches add another opportunity to increase the amount of bacteria and germs on your phone. It is no surprise that research indicates our phone screens are 10x dirtier than a toilet seat. So, how can we change/reduce this?

Limit the germs on your phone

  • Maintain a clean environment for your phone at home by regularly cleaning your counters/tables/surfaces with antibacterial cleaner. If your phone is constantly tossed into a purse or bag, make sure the interior is emptied weekly, quickly sprayed with Lysol (or equivalent) and wiped down.
  • Avoid using your phone in the bathroom and don’t place it on a sink or other bathroom surface while you’re in there.
  • It sounds obvious to wash your hands regularly, but honestly how often do we really wash our hands unless we need to? By sticking to a regular schedule of hand-washing throughout the day, you can reduce the amount of germs you transmit to your phone.
  • Absolutely clean your phone regularly, especially after letting your children use it. A wet tissue or towel is a good start, but using a formulated solution or wet wipe is best. The Tech Armor Cleaning Kit provides a variety of tools to make sure you keep your phone cleaned at home and on the go.

Limit the exposure to your phone

Anytime you touch your phone, whether to your face (while talking) or simply touching the screen, you are allowing germs and bacteria to access your system. However, recent technology makes it possible for us to access and use our devices with limited tactile input.

Unlocking your phone

Obviously it’s important to keep your phone locked to keep sensitive information from falling into the wrong hands. However, each time you unlock it with a long, complicated code you pick up the germs on its surface. Using Face Unlock on certain Android phones or Iris scanner on the new Samsung Galaxy S8 will eliminate this exchange. Even Touch ID on Apple iPhones/iPads reduce the contact to one, simple touch.

Talking/texting on your phone

Using headphones or a bluetooth headset to talk on your phone will eliminate direct exposure to your face, while the latest voice recognition apps can easily create texts/emails with limited touches.

Digital Assistants

Using inherent software like Siri on the Apple iPhone or the newly-launched Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S8, we can also access a wealth of information without a single touch.

Tech Armor Field Test: iPhone 6 Plus vs. Lawnmower

When developing superior protection for top devices like the iPhone 6 Plus, we often field test our products to see how they stand up to the rigors of daily use. From standard drop tests and bike ride mishaps to two-story falls on concrete, we feel our methods yield superior results. Still, one of our loyal Twitter followers in the Tech Armor nation shared a story with us this week that raised the bar!! We couldn’t help but share it here with you:

4/6/16

“@Nic_Hale

@TA_TechArmor thx ur case & screen protector saved my phone! Works perfect still #MowedOverMyPhone#FlexProtectAir”

He couldn’t be serious, right?

That’s what we thought, so we reached out to Nic for more info on how this happened and some proof of life on the phone. Fortunately, he was more than willing to share the story and imagery! We’ll let him take it from here…

“My name is, Nic Hale, from Oklahoma and I just want to send a praise to Tech Armor products! I have an iPhone 6 Plus, so I bought: a Tech Armor glass screen protector, as well as the Flex Protect Air case.  I bought this case because of it’s sleek, simple design while protecting the phone. Still, little did I know I was going to truly put the product to the ultimate test!

Last Sunday morning, I went out to our property to mow. I had my Bluetooth headphones on, rocking out,  while I drove  around on the mower.  I made a few passes around the yard and next thing I know my music stops and then my headphones warned of a “low signal”. I stopped the mower, realizing my phone wasn’t in my pocket and thinking, “hmm I must have left it in the truck”. Well, it couldn’t be in the truck, because I was closer to the truck than before and I didn’t lose signal…  I thought ‘oh no that’s not good’, I quickly retraced my last pass of the mower and as I walked over, I saw my phone laying face down in the grass.  As I got closer, I realized the case is no longer on the phone. I thought to myself, “there is no way this phone is not completely obliterated!”

I reached down and grabbed my phone, much to my surprise, there is very little damage, considering, what had just happened.  My screen was perfect, with no scratches, cracks, chips, nothing!!  The back of the phone had a small chunk out of the bottom corner and a few surface scratches…  A true testament to the case taking the initial blow is the fact that the phone is actually bent and the screen (like I said before) is still perfect.  This small, thin case saved my phone!  I believe the case took the first, major impact when going into the mower. It launched the phone out of the case, out of the mower and then the case must have stayed in the mower longer, because it ended up completely destroyed!

My Samsung Galaxy S7 Screen Protector Doesn’t Fit!?!

The “perfect fit” for the Samsung Galaxy S7… how do we go about achieving this goal and what does it even mean? Back in the days of the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S5, developing a screen protector that fits the device “perfectly” was a relatively easy task. The flat-glass screens offered a two-dimensional problem that was easy to solve: simply define the edges (height and width) and provide precise cuts for all camera and speaker holes. Done!

Now the game has changed with recent device launches as manufacturers have embraced the curved screen. Our once simple problem has expanded to include a 3rd, curved dimension! In order to provide a low-cost solution using flat glass or film, we MUST now account for this curve to avoid installation issues.

With the recent launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7, we’ve received some complaints from loyal Tech Armor fans who claim our HD Clear and Ballistic Glass screen protectors were improperly cut and thus do not fit. At first glance, their imagery seems to lend validity to that assumption, however our product was deliberately designed to avoid the increased curve of the new S7 screen.

Look at the comparison below… On the LEFT, you can see how the glass rests on the flat areas of the glass- providing a perfect seal to protect the flat areas of the screen. On the RIGHT, we’ve created this image to illustrate what would happen if we extended our screen to “perfectly fit” the device.

The flat shape of our screen protectors would create a gap between the device and allow air, dirt and debris to creep under. Every time you pulled the device out of your pocket or purse, the potential for peeling would drastically increase!

At Tech Armor, we pride ourselves on seamless installation with a bubble-free guarantee and we take great care in the design of our products to ensure this promise. While the competition scrambles to redesign their glass and film options (we’ve heard rumors of some manufacturers recalling product), we’re standing by our designs to avoid the curve.

Check out this video demonstration below for a live look at how our Ballistic Glass (at 60mm width) provides seamless coverage vs. a Zagg screen protector (at 64mm) which produces the less-desirable halo effect.

That being said, what about those customers who are willing to pay a little bit more for a COMPLETE edge-to-edge solution? Tech Armor recognizes that a flat glass or film solution offers the lowest possible price, but some customers are willing to invest more… we have not ignored this demand!

Larger Screens Increase Your Chances For Repairs

There’s been a curious arc over the lifespan of the mobile phones. They started out huge and bulky, and gradually shrank over the years until the mid to late 2000s, when smartphones first started appearing on the market. Since then, phones have actually started getting bigger again – some are nearly as large as a tablet.

This has some benefits, obviously. Larger screens mean larger viewing areas for games and videos, and easier typing when entering text. But it also comes with a drawback – a higher chance of needing repairs. Those larger screens mean that more of the screen space is exposed to the elements, which could lead to things like:

  • Scratches
  • Scuffs
  • Shattered glass
  • Permanent stains and smudges
  • And more

To make things worse, the larger size of the devices mean that they’re harder to hold onto, that they’re more chance of damage if they’re dropped, and that they run the risk of being twisted or bent if accidentally forgotten about and left in a pocket. Simply put, you need to pay attention to how you’re taking care of your larger devices.

Whether it’s a mobile phone or a tablet, it’s important that you invest in a good screen protector. And the larger the device’s size, the stronger and more reliable the protector will need to be. Ballistic glass helps defend against everything that can be thrown at a screen and more, and is a solid investment if you have a larger device.

Large devices offer plenty of benefits, but come with added risks. With repairs reaching hundreds of dollars – sometimes even if you have a warranty – it’s important to protect your device so you can enjoy it for years and so when you’re ready for an upgrade you can get the maximum price for it on the resale or trade in market.

Check out our screen protectors for larger screens. They’ll give you the protection and peace of mind that you need.
